Kamar Mohsin Sheikh

Every year on Raksha Bandhan, Kamar Mohsin Sheikh ties a rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This year too, she has prepared two special rakhis and is waiting for an invitation. Kamar Sheikh was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She came to India in 1981 after her marriage. For the past 30 years, she has been tying hand-made rakhis to Modi. This time, she made two rakhis featuring the symbols of ‘Om’ and Lord Ganesha. She mentioned that she never buys rakhis from the market. Instead, she makes them at home every year.

She recalled meeting Modi for the first time when he was an RSS volunteer. Since then, a brother-sister bond has continued between them. She also shared how her wish to see Modi become the Chief Minister of Gujarat came true. Later, she blessed him to become the Prime Minister, which also happened. She said she feels proud that Modi is now serving his third term as Prime Minister. Though she couldn’t travel to Delhi last year, she hopes to meet him this time. She plans to go with her husband, tie the handmade rakhi, and continue the tradition. She also prayed for Modi’s good health and wished that he returns to power for a fourth term.
